Wisdom of the Elder Dragon

"Do you think power comes without a price?  Corruption of your power is a risk you take every day.  It is a divine gift and not to be squandered on conquest or manipulation of events just so that you can one day sit in power.  How many more must die so that you may ... remove your Uncle.  Kill him and be done with it."

Pruatra to Alador - Blue Dragon in the Fallen Tiers, The Blue Dragon's Geas.  To be released in Winter of 2016

Excitement at the Dragons' Geas House!

Pseudo-Dragon recently released on audio.  Zachary Michael did an exceptional job bringing out the booming resonation of the dragon voices.   I will have an interview up by him very soon.  He is previewing the questions even as I write.  I am excited to work with him and he will be doing the final release for the series.

Available on I-tunes, Amazon and Audible

For those that are unfamiliar, this is book four in the series.  Here is the publisher's summary.

Advanced Dragonology of Vesta - Dragon Habitats

Dragon habitats are as varied as there are dragons.  Most people just assume that they have a cave and often this is the case.  However, there are definitely some preferences and variations.  Like people, not all dragons want raise their fledglings in the same environments.  Of course, exploration of these habitats are dangerous and therefore most of what we know are from abandoned nests.

Black Dragons are slightly more wiry than their larger cousins.  Due to this, they often find holes in the ground that cannot be really classified as caves. However, they have no qualms in taking over an abandoned cave.    They prefer dark recesses where they can blend in and their spaces are often tighter then many of their kin.

Blue Dragons usually find natural caves that can be reached from underwater but have an air space within. They often will also choose sea side caves hard to reach due to the tides and crashing water. They prefer wet caverns as they often incubate their eggs in warmed water.

Bronze Dragons almost always dig their own caverns and these are as varied as the dragon.  They may have winding corridors to their nest, organized rooms or even one large cathedral like space.

Green Dragons do not like caves at all. They will usually choose natural crevices that are hard to reach except by flight but never one with a roof.   They do not mind the rain and will migrate to avoid the snows.  They are most comfortable in mossy and heavily wooded areas.

Gold Dragon - Unknown at this time. No known nest or cave has been found.

Red Dragons are your typical dragon.  They like caves and often have them close to areas of natural warmth. They tend to live in areas without snow. However, if the cave is deep enough to maintain a year around tempature, they have been found that far north.

Silver Dragons like to take over fallen cities, old castles and other such shrines.  They redecorate making their nest an area of beauty, serenity and peace.  They can also be found behind waterfalls if the area behind is dry enough.

White Dragons prefer sea facing caves hollowed out from icebergs or glaciers.   Their caves are made by their own efforts and are often marvels of sparkling ice and sculpture.  Rare is the ice dragon that has not created an ice scape that draws the eyes.  This can be dangerous if you are staring at their surroundings if they are hungry.

The Blackguard - Early Released Teaser

Below is a teaser from the upcoming book: The Blackguard. It is second in the series of The Blue Dragon's Geas. This might be tweaked more during edit but it gives you a taste. This goes out to all those pushing me to get it done. I am on Chapter 15.

Renamaum and Keensight sat on the mountain top looking down into the valley below. Renamaum had a wing in front of the red dragon to keep him from sweeping off the ledge in rage.  Below them, in that dark vale, were eight young dragons.  They differed in age and color but each one had one thing in common.  Large chains bound them to the ground.  These chains wound up over their wings so that none of them could unfold enough to get a proper thrust off the ground.
“Do you see him anywhere. I know he is down there.”  Keensight rumbled in fear and pain that only a father could feel.
“No.  He would have barely hatched. I do not see any that young, old friend.” Renamaum was eyeing the entire valley below them carefully.  “Perhaps in that cave but it is too small for either you or I to enter.   If we wish to save fledglings from this fate, it will have to be done by a creature much smaller than you or I.”  Renamaum eyed the red flight leader with sorrow. His mate had been killed in her nest.  The egg she had nurtured had been missing.  The broken swords and dead were Lerdenian.  There was no doubt that the egg was headed to this place.  It was called a bloodmine for the dragons blood that was spilt yearly.  Each chained dragon below was bled every year until they became to large to handle. Then they were outright killed and left to fester where they lay.
Renamaum closed his nostrils down for even from this far distance, the smell of blood and death wafted on the wind. He felt for his friend. He had lost mate and fledgling all at the same time.  Though most Lerdenians believed them to be nothing but magical beasts, the truth was that such losses stayed with a dragon his entire lifetime.  Dragons had very long lifetimes.
“I will kill them all.  Let us fly down and release our brothers. Let us rise up and burn every last one of them. I want every one of them to die.”  Keensight snarled in rage. He bellowed his rage into the wind and all the dragons below them answered in a mournful call for help.
“Keensight. I understand your anger but that is to declare war for all the flights. It is not ours alone to do. Besides, look closer. They have their spears of wood aimed at every dragon.  We or they would be dead before we freed the first.  We cannot help them alone.”  Renamaum wanted to console the dragon but how did one repair such a loss.
“I will demand a war of the council. I will demand they rise up and lay waste to their spiraling cities and their crops. I will see their floating wooden toys sunk into the sea they travel.” Keensight rocked back and forth and Renamaum knew he had little time to talk sense to his friend. “They have declared this war, not us!”
“You could do this. This is true.  And more of our kin will fall. There is a better way brother, but one that will take time.   We find one who can do this work.  One who can go into that cave and pull out our eggs and newly hatched.  One who can love without constraint and protect without thought.  This is what we find.”  Renamaum pleaded against the red dragon’s anger. “We must lose these brothers to win a war much greater than our own pain.”
“This is my fledgling you speak of, you fool.  You want me to sacrifice MY fledgling that yours might live?  I will not do so. I will find him and I will free him if I have to claw my way into that cave.”  Keensight pushed Renamaum’s wing out of the way and dove for the valley below.  Renamaum knew it was hopeless and let out a wail of sorrow for his friend’s impending death.
Keensight dove for the first of the spear throwers, his fire rained down with deadly accuracy as his sweeping path took out two of the wooden constructs.  He banked up sharply but before he could turn to  make another pass, the sound of releasing war machines filled Renamaum’s ears. He keened with sorrow as four of the chained dragons were killed before his eyes.  The Lerdenian keepers would rather see their prizes dead, their blood draining into the ground then released.
Keensight must have realized the fate of the other four.  He banked sharply and flew off into the distance.  His howl of frustration, of rage and loss filled the air and miles around, it echoed in the wind as dragons picked up his cry .  Renamaum watched him go, a single tear fell from his great eye.  “I am so sorry, my friend.” He whispered into the wind.  He then too, took up the cry as the dragons of the isle sang the song of sorrow for the fallen.

Hamaseic - God of Water

Hamaseic is the God of all things water.  Fishermen and seamen often have emblems of Hamaseic on the prow of their boats.  Even the great masted ships of the Lerdenian fleet have the emblem boldly imprinted with shimmering emblems.  Seen as in control of both the elements of water and storms, Hamaseic is most often followed along the coast villages and cities.

As varied as the bodies of water he rules, Hamaseic's blue dragons come in varying shades with simple commonalities.  They can remain under water for long periods of time and are for more graceful in the water than the air or on land.  Their bodies are more rotund making a buoyant mass upon the bottom of the sea waiting for large fish to swim above them.  Their eyesight is particularly good whether under water or hovering above their prey.  They easily can narrow in on their target and often are the first to notice movement.  Their breath weapon is steam, often preferring to cook their fish in their own breath before they eat it. These dragons are often curious and get into the most trouble as fledglings for they question and explore everything.

Followers of Hamaseic are often innately curious.  They adapt to change easily and are very fluid.  They are people of great compassion and will work hard to repair and restore.  While they can function within structured and ruled environments, they will not hesitate to change the rules or challenge the consensus if they feel it for the greater good of all.

Outcast - It is alive and ready to read!

So today is a day where dreams come true.  All my life I have wanted to be an artist.  When I was 16, I was so advanced in my English classes as far as creativity went, that my English teacher had a writer coming in twice a week to give me private coaching. I loved it.

However, fear is a powerful thing.  I have feared rejection and so I have published some poetry.  I have dabbled in ghost writing.  It wasn't until I met Rebecca and Alex Hunt that I got the courage to put my mother's story out.  After that, I had mentioned my novel half done sitting in my computer.  Alex began to push me.  He pushed and pushed and at times I remember cursing his persistent.  Then he took on the role of editor and ripped it all apart and pushed me to put it back together again.  After all the hours of bemoaning how much I hate editing, the baby was born today.

We finally settled on the first cover though I loved the second one that Heather did as well.  Heather has done her own set of cursing as the file size allowed versus the quality was a dance that was difficult at best.   Heather is a very accomplished artist and each time she creates, I see her grow.  I am so proud to have her as my illustrator.   Right now the book is being added to Amazon Prime, Amazon and Kindle select.  However, for those who have been waiting, it is available now directly from my publisher.

Thank you for all of those that gave me pre-release feedback.  Thank you to my family who has put up with many hours in front of my lap top.  Thank you to Heather for your artwork.  Thank you to Alex who is a wonderful but pushy editor.  Yes, yes, I know.  That is how he was supposed to be!

For your reading pleasure, I give you:  The Dragon's Geas: Outcast.

The Importance of Dragon Colors

There is a site called the Circle of the Dragon that goes into great depth into the meanings of color and how we assign them. Specifically it goes into each color of the dragons represented through myth and fiction.  Below is an except from http://www.blackdrago.com/colors.htm

For example, the first of the Dragons' Geas novels involves a Blue Dragon.  The writings about Blue Dragons specifically were influenced by this website.

"Blue is a common color for sea serpents. Light blue dragons represent the vastness of the sky and flight, while dark blue dragons represent still, deep waters. Blue dragons are highly protective creatures and magical.

Blue Chinese dragons are of the purest azure colors. They are a symbol of the East and are pacifying."
                                                                 Kylie 'drago' McCormick

This is a great site to visit and I encourage you to explore it as a writer and lover of dragons.
